Ed Vander Bloomen embarked on his service to the Knights of Columbus in 1992 joining the Mother of Hope Council #1957 (Two Rivers). In October of that same year, he received his 2nd and 3rd Degrees in Appleton. Ed served his council in a variety of positions including that of Grand Knight, 1994-95. He also serves on his council’s 1st Degree team. He served four years as District Deputy 1996-99.
Ed was exemplified into the 4th Degree on April 13, 1996 in Oconomowoc and is a member of the Rev. Francis Simino Assembly #1220. He also served his Assembly in several positions and is a past Faithful Navigator.
Ed has served the State Council as the Green Bay Diocesan Programs Coordinator for four years 2000-03 and State Programs Coordinator and State Youth Athletics Coordinator for one year 2003-2004 until his appointment as Master.
He was employed with the Mirro Corporation in 1968 leaving the company as a production supervisor in 1974. From 1974-86, he was employed as a Police Officer with the City of Two Rivers. Since then, he has been employed with the Wisconsin Professional Police Association as a bargaining consultant specializing in labor negotiations.
Prior to moving to Manitowoc, Ed served the community of Two Rivers as its United Way Campaign Manager in 1991. In 1992, he was elected to the Two Rivers City Council for a two-year term, and was reelected in 1994 for a second two-year term. In 1994, the members of the Two Rivers City Council elected him as its Council President. At the conclusion of his second term, he opted to not run for another term.
Ed was appointed Master of the 4th Degree for the Eastern District of Wisconsin in September of 2004 which includes the Milwaukee Archdiocese and the Green Bay Diocese. The Eastern District is composed of 21 Assemblies with approximately 2300 member Sir Knights.
Ed served as a lay minister while member at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish (formerly Holy Redeemer) in Two Rivers before moving to Manitowoc. He was a Eucharistic minister, Lector and Adult server. He was also a high school religious education instructor. He was a member and past President of the Men of Holy Redeemer.
Ed and his wife, Noreen, are currently members of Holy Innocents Parish in Manitowoc.
