Robert J. Abb
IPSD Robert is a charter member of Msgr. Beck-Father Olson Council since 1990, an insurance member and joined the Fourth Degree in 1992. He served in leadership positions for his council as Recorder, Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight, and Trustee. Under his guidance as Grand Knight his Council was the recipient of the Star Council Award twice. He has been Chairman of many of his council activities; complied his Council History Book which was awarded the Madison Diocese History Book Award. He was awarded the Knight of the Year Award twice, Family of the Year Award eleven times, as well as the Medallion Award for the Madison Diocese in 2003. He has brought in over 75 new members and been a member of his councils First Degree Team and the District Second Degree Team.
Robert served as Co-State Coordinator for New Council Development for and was instrumental in starting councils in Stoughton, Oregon, Basilica of Saint Josaphat Milwaukee and Big Bend. He has also served as District Warden for three years and District Deputy for five years, and was elected State Secretary April 24, 2005 in Green Bay at the State Convention. He became State Deputy April 24, 2006 in Wisconsin Dells ans was re-elected in Appleton April 2007. He has attended Supreme Conventions 2000 and 2001, and represented Wisconsin as a delegate 1996, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
As a member of the Fourth Degree Msgr. Hanz Assembly 1209 he served as Faithful Scribe, Faithful Captain, Trustee, and as Faithful Navigator his assembly received the Civic Award. As a member of the Honor Guard he has traveled around the state participating in wakes, funerals, Confirmations, Clergy Anniversary’s, Chrism Mass, Ordinations, Memorial Day Masses, and parades. Robert served as a Area Coordinator for four years, He has assisted the Master of the Western District with the Installation of Fourth Degree Offices, paperwork for the degrees, transported and assisted in the set up and take down of degree equipment, as well as being Master of Ceremony for two Exemplification Banquets.
Robert attended St. Mary’s School, served on the Church Council, as Church Lector, Eucharistic and Wine Minister, ushers, and has been a Mass Server. Worked for thirty two years at General Motors in the Inspection Department and as a trainer. He represented General Motors at the Chicago and New York Auto Shows. Robert retired in 1991 from General Motors.
Robert served four years in the Navy as an instructor, completed a course in leadership, is a member of the American Legion, been a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Echo (food pantry) Mercy Hospital, School Breakfast Program, Salvation Army, Letter carriers food drive, and distributed food to nursing homes and volunteered as a driver for the elderly and handicapped. He has taken Dale Carnegie Courser in Effective Speaking and Human relations.
Robert and his wife Helen were married in 1960 have three children, John, Brenda, and Hank, six grandchildren, and three great granddaughter.
